HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA!

Chris' parents drove through after Christmas on their way to Florida and stayed with us for a few days. It was nice seeing them twice in just a few months! The kids love wrestling and playing with Jen and Randall.

We were all together to celebrate Grandpa Randall's 69th birthday on December 30th. His favorite dessert is pecan pie so we bought one and stuck his candles in it!

I had asked Nick to answer a bunch of questions about his Grandpa for a game we were going to play but we didn't get a chance to do it. His answers were so sweet, I had to keep them!

Grandpa's favorite car: a convertable
Grandpa's favorite color: gray
Grandpa's favorite food: pie
Favorite thing to do with Nick: Play bowling on the wii
Favorite thing about Grandma: she was cute
What was Grandpa's job? Secret Agent and Marine
How much did he get paid? $2000 because he had to buy that big house!
How are you and Grandpa the same? We have a lot of hair and we both love Diet Pepsi
How are you different? I don't like to sit and he does.
What makes Grandpa happy? Getting to see us forever.
What he is really good at? Being a really good Grandpa!

Happy Birthday, Grandpa Randall!

SNOW!

We have already had tons of snow this year! It even snowed some on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was just beautiful. The kids have been dying to get out and play in it with all the neighbor kids. With just a few hot cocoa breaks, the boys can manage to stay out there for hours! Olivia loves the snow, too, as long as her friends are with her and she knows the hot chocolate is on it's way!

LOVE this face!

CHRISTMAS

Christmas Eve is always so fun at our house. I love it when it is just our little family, relaxing and enjoying each other. This year was just as fun. We spent the afternoon preparing our favorite dinner: Prime rib, twice baked potatoes, spinach salad, rolls and sparkling cider. We sent the kids outside for some fresh air while we finished getting everything ready. They came in the house with this beautiful handmade "mistletoe..."

A sort-of fancy yet kid favorite dessert...cupcakes!

Our Christmas eve program consists of acting out the nativity and watching the Nativity dvd. Then the kids get to open one gift, usually their new pajamas, before Chris reads "The Night Before Christmas." Once they get a plate of goodies ready for Santa they scamper upstairs to Olivia's room to (try) and fall asleep together.

Santa and the reindeer are always well fed at this house
Christmas morning came early. Really early! I am not sure that the kids really slept all that much but they sure were excited!! We always have a special family prayer at the top of the stairs, just to remind us all what we are really celebrating. Then Chris and I go go downstairs first to turn on the tree lights and "check" to see if Santa has been here. The kids race down after us and the free-for-all begins.

Grandma and Grandpa Smith sent the boys Chiefs uniforms!

Livi's shock when she realized our family present was a  wii!

My mom and I pulled a fast one on Chris this year. He bought the wii for the family and was really wanting to get RockBand for himself. However it was the hot commodity this year, selling out everywhere! We tricked him into thinking that my mom couldn't get one- I told Chris she bought him some nice jewelry- when actually she had been at Best Buy when the new shipment of Rockbands arrived! So his present from them was one of my bracelets, wrapped up in a small box. When he opened it, he was totally confused. There was a small tag attached to the bracelet that said "Gotcha! Your real present is hidden in the coat closet! Love, Mom and Dad Robinson" Here he is, pulling out his Rockband:

After Santa's surprises and present opening, we had a nice big breakfast. Then the rest of the day is spent   playing with new toys and games  and just having fun together. This year I don't think we even got out of our jammies! I love it. This is the third year that we have done pizza on Christmas Day afternoon and it works out great for us. We've already had our big fancy meal so I usually just have a Papa Murphy's pizza in the fridge and we bake it when we are ready to take a break from playing!

I just love everything about Christmas. I love the extra things we do that bring us closer as a family. I love the extra cuddle time we have as we read all of those Christmas stories. I love shopping for the kids. I love baking yummy treats that only get made at Christmas time. And most of all, I love the warm sweet spirit of Christ that is so strong this time of year. Most years I wish that Christmas Eve could last a week, just because of how wonderful the evening feels. I am thankful for my family and for the pure joy they bring to me. That is the best gift of all!

DOG BED

We just bought Charlie this new dog bed. He has yet to sleep on it. I think he's sniffed it twice.  I am sure it will be one of many items that ends up getting sold at a yard sale. Until then though, it is still getting some use...

ALL DRESSED UP

The kids looked darling in the Christmas outfits they wore to church. Little Ben was being uncooperative or he would have been in the photo, too...

COMMUNTIY CHRISTMAS TREE

This year, our family had the opportunity to "adopt" five spanish-speaking families in Liberty and give them a special Christmas.  The program we were apart of gave "Community Bucks" that spent like cash at various local stores. We shopped and shopped to find just the right gifts and then got everything wrapped and ready to go. One night we helped assemble the boxes that would hold our families' Christmas dinners. Then on the Saturday morning before Christmas, we loaded the suburban with all the gifts, picked up the food boxes and delivered them to each of our families. It was so nice to be able to meet and hug the sweet families that we had spent so much time thinking about! The spirit was strong as we drove from house to house, talking with the kids about blessings and how fun it is to serve others. We are already looking forward to next year!

BETHLEHEM

Tonight was our church's Christmas celebration, "A Night in Bethlehem." We were asked to dress up so naturally, I went as a mild-mannered mother, Chris as a noble and strong father figure and the boys as animals.....Olivia was at a friends Christmas party but she would have been the beautiful sister angel, had she attended!  Our photo was taken when we arrived.....

This is Ben's new idea of fun. So sorry buddy, but Mommy's budget doesn't support such games...

GINGERBREAD

Tonight for Family Home Evening we decorated the gingerbread house our neighbors gave us for Christmas. It was so fun! Ben decorated the gingerbread people and horded candy while Nick and Livi worked hard on our beautfiul house!

The kids could hardly wait to bulldoze the house and start eating it!
